Description Woodstock Anthem: The Woodstock Song Project A New Show Celebrating the Woodstock Song Tradition – from the Mythical 60’s to the Music of Woodstock Today Preview Performance on May 1st at Alphabet Lounge Woodstock, NY – Growing out of a revitalized Woodstock recording and live music scene is a new collective project that shares the spirit of the town’s storied musical happenings. WOODSTOCK ANTHEM: THE WOODSTOCK SONG PROJECT celebrates the area’s rich tradition of song and free spirited live happenings. These mini ‘Sound-outs’ (the local mini-festivals that were the pre-cursor to the massive 1969 festival) offer new music from the Woodstock region – along with inspired interpretations of Woodstock music from all eras. The shows will be performed by a rotating group of top performing songwriters and session musicians from the Woodstock scene. Local acts of note will also join the performances. The debut WOODSTOCK ANTHEM concert will take place on Saturday, May 1st at the Alphabet Lounge in the East Village. This night will feature Woodstock guitar hero Chris Zaloom, who has gigged and recorded with rock heavies ranging from Jimi Hendrix to buzz band Duke and the King; singer/songwriter Julia Nichols who has recorded and toured with The Slits and Coheed and Cambria. Julia and Chris will front their band Naked, a popular Woodstock band that also boasts singer/songwriter/percussionist Ben Vita (son of Woodstock legend John Sebastian) and John Watson, and in-demand young Woodstock session drummer. The evening will also feature two NYC ex-pats who have been making their name on the Hudson Valley singer/songwriter circuit: Kyle Esposito, who will perform his own songs on voice and guitar, and then provide the slinky bass lines for Naked; and Doug Yoel, a Grammy-nominated record producer and multi-instrumentalist. NYC Singer/songwriter Debbie Deane, who records for Ravi Coltrane’s RKM Music label, will add a local flavor to the event, performing on Wurlitzer and guitar. There will be some jamming between the artists, special guests, and ensemble performances of popular music from the likes of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, The Band, Van Morrison, et al. And a whole lot of great new music!
