Description Vampire Weekend, a quartet of Columbia kids, offer up damn-near perfect pop tunes with an endearing sincerity we can only hope survives a rocket to stardom. But don't mistake their earnest attitudes for ---------; the boys write beyond their years, with pointed, often sardonic commentary soaring over ebullient keys in sing-a-long verse. Vampire Weekend cite African bands like Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Kanda Bongo Man as pull points. Of course, these Columbia grads flaunt their Western roots, too: "A-Punk"'s got some Kinks, "Oxford Comma" is like MMJ's Z revisited from Brooklyn.

aston: This is one of like 5 Vampire Weekend shows in early December.

jennifer: you should talk about these things before they're sold out.

ryan: it's only nov 2nd - this is sold out already??

edlikesmusic: nyc is their home turf and they're en fuego right now. these probably sold out as soon as they went on sale

Eric: I feel like A punk is straight Clash while songs like Cape Cod Kwassa Are straight Paul Simon

Eric: but the hipster (a.k.a Vamp W) thing to do is to cite extremely irreverant sources when the pop influence is pretty clear in my opinion

ryan: Eric, you're spot on.. I don't think anyone would argue with those two being huge influences.

edlikesmusic: yea they were also at treasure island and its probably the closest I'll ever get to being at a Paul Simon live show
