♫ Spoon - Is Love Forever? Live mp3
I absolutely adore this song off of Spoon's new album Transference - "Is Love Forever". It's hard to find any of the new Spoon mp3s online from this record.. I think there's been a lot of takedown requests from Matador peeps. Here's an older, live version that seems to have survived. Enjoy!

♫ Beach House - Walk in the Park mp3
Beach House's "Walk In the Park" is the perfect introduction to their new album Teen Dream, SubPop's first release of 2010. I finally gave this record a chance the other week after reading the rave reviews and it definitely lives up to the hype.

♫ of Montreal - Plastis Wafers mp3
"“Plastis Wafers” was the big revelation of the night. It was leaner, tighter, faster, funkier. This could be a matter of projection for me, but it seemed much sadder than usual. What had once sounded like pure desire now felt more like hopeless desperation. When Kevin sang “You are such a fucking star,” it was like admiration mixing into resentment. The song sounded like an elegy for something that was dead, or dying. “It’s so painful when they amputate the ego.” No kidding, man...." -Matt Perpetua. http://www.fluxblog.org/

♫ Phoenix - Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands mp3
"Aficionados should realize that this is a Bob Dylan cover, but the boys from France make it their own. Pending their commercialization post-Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, it is nice to see them still creating surprises while peddling Cadillacs.".. http://www.baeblemusic.com/musicblog/1-27-2010/mp3:phoenixsadeyedladyofthelowlands

♫ Spoon - Trouble Comes Running mp3
"By now, you know exactly what a Spoon record – any Spoon record, every Spoon record – sounds like. One part jittery drum pattern, one part slithery bassline, one part Mercybeat, one part late 70’s Stones tight acoustic guitar, two parts undeniably infections guitar and/or piano melody, two parts Motown, one hundred thousand parts hipster vocal detachment. If you’re looking for the curveball, I’ve got news for you: it’s not coming. Spoon has a formula down, the formula works for Spoon, Spoon is sticking to that formula. End of story. Thing is, the formula does work. There is not a bad Spoon record. Some (Gimme Fiction, Kill the Moonlight) are better ..

Nice Dead Kennedys' cover with a smokey french lounge vibe mixed with some shots of jack and I don't know maybe 16 beers.

♫ The Knux - Floozy mp3
This is a sick track off of the new 5-track EP from The Knux. This track is my favorite because its hilarious and it has a smooth old school rhyme scheme. The rest of the EP blends electro beats with the same sort of smooth intelligence. If you like the stank of a foul funk or miss the boys from Outkast, this might help tide you over.

♫ Charlotte Gainsbourg - The Songs That We Sing mp3
Charlotte Gainsbourg was born into the kind of life that lots of girls dream about. The daugher of French musician/lothario Serge Gainsbourg and English actress/singer/fashion icon Jane Birkin, who are best known for their racy duet "Je t'aime… moi non plus". She started acting at just 13, and released an album Charlotte For Ever just two years later (with music written by her father). "The Songs That We Sing" was a single that Charlotte released in 2007 and I think its pretty fantastic just like her 2009 release "IRM" produced by Beck.

♫ Hellogoodbye - When We First Met mp3
Daytrotter: What you're about to open up here is a new experience, a way of hearing this Huntington Beach, California band that calls itself Hellogoodbye, other than the one that you were expecting. It's an experience that goes easy on, almost absent of the group's electro-clash pop sound that it's been heard and fond of charming us with for almost 10 years now. This session and the three brand new songs found in it - some of which were written in a scary house in Big Bear, out in the mountains and woods on an all-dudes hang-out weekend - are an awakening to the pure elements of songwriting and musical prowess that this crew of young men have within them... Hear more so..

Black Noise - Jackin My Fresh
Stumbled across this randomly. The beginning is a little weak, but the beat drop at :42 is sick as shit. Pretty sure the first time I heard this song was walking into a strip club and it was amazing in every way possible. Worth listening to for the skinny jeans diss alone.

25 Ways to End the Year
1) See Dutch New York Between East and West: The World of Margrieta van Varick, about the life of a 17th century Dutch woman who lived half her life in Malaysia and half in Flatbush.
2) Read From Rags to Riches: The Dirty Story Behind Sugar Refining in 19th Century NYC, one of the intriguing, unpredictable articles from the just-launched Vintage Magazine, inspired Fleur Cowles' Flair, which retains a cult following more than 60 years after its brief publishing life.
2) Trying to sort through the long arm of family? For a look at the phenomenon, read Penelope Lively's new book Family Album, in which the author, with her customary brisk insight, anatomizes the hous..

♫ The Low Anthem - Charlie Darwin mp3
The Low Anthem's 2009 release "Oh My God, Charlie Darwin" has been getting recognized on a lot of year-end lists around the blogs. This is one of my favorite tracks off of it. Aquarium Drunkard's take: Possibly the most uniquely beautiful record released this year and something that begs for repeated listening in the dark, soft moments of the day. Riveting harmonies abound and stay with you until you drift off.

♫ Portugal The Man - Work All Day mp3
2009's "Satantic Satanist" didn't really create the amount of hype that this record truly deserved, but that's quite alright. For The Satanic Satanist, Gourley and his bandmates – Zachary Scott Carothers/bass, and Ryan Neighbors/keyboards, and the drummer for the album, Garrett Lunceford – flew to Boston’s Camp Street Studios to work with Paul Q. Kolderie, whose previous clients include both the Pixies and Radiohead, with additional production help from Adam Taylor (The Lemonheads, The Dresdon Dolls) and Cornershop sitarist/keyboardist Anthony Saffery. This was a big step for the band. From the time Gourley started the group in Wasilla, Alaska as an outl..

Flaming Lips - Watching the Planets (NSFW)
This video for "Watching the Planets" off of Embryonic is the one Pitchfork reported about a while ago. It features a giant egg in the forest and lots of nude people riding bicycles around Portland.
Not only does this clip for Embryonic standout "Watching the Planets" boast plenty of free-spirited guys and girls pushing Wayne Coyne's famed megabubble through a forest, but Coyne gets in on the act, too.
That's right: The following music video features Wayne Coyne completely and totally naked. And it makes that recent "XXX" Girls video seem kinda tame.
Watch the uncensored clip, which was co-directed by Coyne and George Salisbury, ..
